Portola Springs Elementary School is a 6-building campus constructed in 2015 on 15 acres at the base of the Santiago hills in northern Irvine, California. Epic worked with Ruhnau Clarke Architects to adapt the site from a rough-graded commercial development into a community-friendly learning environment. An adjacent plant and wildlife habitat was preserved, with special provisions to keep the staff and students safe while allowing the wildlife to flourish.
Potable water, recycled irrigation water, and sewer services were processed through Irvine Ranch Water District to serve the campus. Collaboration with The Irvine Company and the City of Irvine ensured student safety at a campus adjacent to a parkway while maintaining the curated presentation that the City desires.
